Purpose of the Cinderella Fund

The Cinderella Fund was established by the Friends of CASA to provide for the special needs of the children assigned to CASA volunteers. The Cinderella Fund is not intended for items covered by Department of Human Services stipends. Rather, they are designed to provide the children with important and meaningful items or services that fall beyond the normal DHS budget.

Examples of items and services funded in the past by the Cinderella Fund are

  • Used guitar from EBay for a musically inclined child
  • Parenting books for a pregnant teenager
  • Clothes for a child who outgrew her wardrobe prior to the next DHS clothing stipend
  • Sports and music camps (note that Washtenaw County also provides camp scholarships)
  • Birthday cake
  • Gift cards for birthday or holiday (particularly appropriate for older children)

ABOUT CASA OF WASHTENAW

CASA of Washtenaw County is a unique and effective collaboration of the Washtenaw County Trial Court (Juvenile Division) and the Friends of CASA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Our goal is to provide every child in foster care a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer.

CASA volunteers are sworn officers of the court who attend court proceedings and recommend to the judges how to best help a child removed from his/her home due to neglect and/or abuse.
